Generate Ad Copy for Your Own Agency's Lead Gen with Google Ads Asset Studio
For Marketing Agency Owners ·
What This Does
The agency's own marketing is usually the first thing to slip when client work fills the week, and a blank ad copy document is one of the easier places for that to happen. Asset Studio reads your landing page and campaign goals, then generates headline and description options for your own search campaign so you're editing a first draft instead of starting from nothing.
Before You Start
- You have an active Google Ads account for your agency's own lead generation, with billing set up. Google Ads' own pricing and account setup pages have current details if you're starting a new account
- You have a landing page live for the offer you're advertising, since Asset Studio pulls context from that page to generate relevant copy
- You know the campaign goal (leads, calls, form fills) you're optimizing for
- Someone on your team is available to review generated copy before it goes live. Treat every AI-drafted headline as a draft, not a published ad
Steps
1. Open Asset Studio
From your Google Ads account, find Asset Studio in the left navigation (it may sit under Tools or Content depending on your account layout). This is the workspace for creating and managing text, image, and video assets across your campaigns.
2. Point it at your landing page and describe the goal
Provide your landing page URL, along with any brand guidelines or a short prompt describing what the campaign should emphasize, for example, "boutique SEO and paid social services for home services businesses." Asset Studio evaluates the page content along with your account's conversion goals and text guidelines to generate suggestions that match.
3. Generate and review headline and description variations
Ask it to generate headline and description options. You'll get a set of variations rather than a single answer, some closer to your voice than others. Read through them for accuracy, nothing that overstates what your agency does or promises a result you can't back up, and edit any that are close but not quite right rather than discarding them.
4. Add the ones you'll actually use to your asset group
Keep the strongest three to five headlines and descriptions per theme and add them to your campaign's asset group. If you're building the campaign directly from Asset Studio, selecting assets there can prefill them into a new asset group automatically. Google will test combinations against each other over time, so having a genuine range, not five near-identical versions of the same sentence, gives the system more to learn from.
5. Check performance after the campaign has run
Once the campaign has enough traffic to report on, check which headline and description combinations Google is serving most often and how they're performing. Asset Studio's suggestions are a starting point tuned to your landing page's text, not a guarantee of what will convert. The real signal is what actually happens once real prospects see the ads.
Real Example
Scenario: Your agency wants to run a search campaign targeting home services businesses looking for a marketing partner, pointed at your services landing page.
What you do: Open Asset Studio, provide the landing page URL and a short description of your ideal client and service focus. Generate headline and description options, review them for accuracy, keep the five strongest headlines and four strongest descriptions, and add them to the asset group for a new Search campaign.
What you get: A working set of ad copy ready to launch the same day, instead of a campaign sitting half-built because ad copy kept getting pushed to next week.
Tips
- Don't let Asset Studio's copy be the last word on what your agency promises. Read every generated line as if a prospect will hold you to it, because they will.
- Refresh your landing page content occasionally and regenerate. Asset Studio pulls from what's actually on the page, so a stale landing page produces stale-sounding ad copy no matter how good the AI is.
- Since this is your own agency's marketing, there's no client confidentiality concern here, which makes it a low-stakes place to get comfortable with Asset Studio before you'd consider using AI-generated ad copy on a client account.
